A raw reworking of Henrik Ibsen’s penultimate work John Gabriel Borkman, which explores the power of broken dreams to mutilate and cage human will and spirit. It will take you on a journey into the seething cauldron of memories in which the Borkman family, exiled from native Denmark to faraway Jamaica, after their patriarch’s fall from grace, feast their tortured imaginations. Mrs. Borkman, fired with a crusader’s zeal to avenge the family’s downfall, her sister, nursing the angst of an unrequited lifelong love for John Gabriel, the son, bowed down with the relentless burdens of his father’s incomplete destiny that calls out to him and finally, the patriarch himself who sits surrounded by searing memories of past greatness and fears of the future void, flanked by his faithful friend who still believes in him. One summer afternoon in Jamaica, the clouds will break, illusions will shatter as the unblinking abyss of truth stares at these chained souls. As the gale whips up outside, a last call to arms will sound, and every soul will be offered a final chance at redemption. For in the dark abyss, even gods die nameless in gales.
