The Lisbon Players End of Season Report and a look at what is being planned for the 2011 / 2012 Season.

End of our Season!

Here we are at the end of what has been an unprecedented season for Lisbon Players. We have produced no fewer than ten plays between October and June starting off with three one act plays, Strindberg's The Stronger , directed by António Andrade, Feydeau's Revenge, directed by James Williams, and Checkov’s Jubilee directed by Valerie Braddell, which also transferred to the Olga Cadaval Cultural Centre in Sintra for two performances. This production was followed by Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest , directed by Jonathan Weightman in the run up to Christmas.

2011 kicked off with She Stoops to Conquer , directed by Keith Esher avis, and hard on the heels of that came Mary Stuart by Dacia Maraini, directed by Norman MacCallum. Not allowing time for grass to grow we presented a series of three new plays in April, Box, written and directed by Rafaela Lacerda, Is Anything Broken?, written by Daniel Davies and directed by Rob Clowes, and Birthday , written and directed by António Andrade.

As many of you must know, we rounded off this extraordinary season with Romeo & Juliet , directed by Valerie Braddell which played to mostly packed houses.

As well as producing all of these shows we have held member’s evenings regularly with a variety of activities, play readings, Scottish dancing, quiz nights, to name but a few, and now to bring this action packed season to an end we plan to hold a barbecue on Sunday 3rd July for all members (see below).

All being well we shall continue with the same frenzied diary of productions and activities over the coming months. Congratulations are due to the directors, casts, crews and organisers of all these productions and activities.

2011-2012 Season

We can now announce the outline for the programme for our next season at Estrela Hall! Of course, this is not written in stone and may alter slightly, but here is the plan for the moment:

October – Mister, Move Your Mattress directed by Denise Robinson and Rafaela Lacerda
November – Three Sisters directed by Jonathan Weightman
December – Christmas show (to be announced)
February – The Provoked Wife directed by Norman MacCallum
April – Dr. Feelgood directed by Keith Esher Davis
June – A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Valerie Braddell and Celia Williams

Our Summer Barbecue

All our members are invited to an end of season barbecue in the Estrela Hall courtyard on Sunday 3rd July from 17.00 onwards. Please join us in raising a glass to yet another successful season and kick off the summer with great food, drink and friends.

Meat will be provided and the bar will be open, but culinary contributions, such as salads and/or desserts, would be very welcome. Not a member? First-time membership and renewals available at the door for €5 (Valid until March 2012)

Summer 2011

During this month our wonderful home, Estrela Hall, will be undergoing some essentialrenovation work, so we will be closed for activities until September. Watch this space for information and come along to our first event in September to see the changes we will have made.

Meanwhile, for those of you who cannot make it to our barbecue, we wish you a happy and healthy summer break and a big thank you to you all for your continued support. Without it we could not survive.
